SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE OVER $2 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR LOCAL HOUSING AND FINANCIAL COUNSELING PROGRAMS

Washington, DC – U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $2,193,208 in federal funding allocated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as part of the Housing Counseling Grant program. The program provides funding to approved counseling agencies that help clients achieve responsible homeownership through financial planning, literacy, educational resources, and property maintenance training for both tenants and homeowners. Additionally, this funding will help clients navigate local, federal, and private housing assistance.

“The complex process of homeownership can be daunting, and as New York becomes a more and more popular place to live, it’s important that we provide New Yorkers with the guidance they need to navigate that process,” said Senator Schumer. “These funds will help all New Yorkers get the resources and skills they need to make smart, informed decisions about their future and their homes. I am proud to deliver this funding that will make responsible homeownership an achievable goal for New Yorkers.”

“Every New Yorker should have access to resources and guidance to help put them on a path to financial security and home ownership,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This federal funding will help hardworking New Yorkers access the support, training, and education needed to be successful tenants and homeowners. Safe and reliable housing is essential to the health of our communities, and I will always fight to ensure our communities have the resources they need to thrive.”
