U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced that Elmira/Corning Regional Airport will receive a grant totaling $3,515,000.00 from the Department of Transportation. The grant will fund the rehabilitation of the airport's apron, the area contiguous to the terminal where planes are parked, loaded, and unloaded. The rehabilitation ensures safe aircraft operations.
"This is great news for the Southern Tier Region and for travelers who use Elmira Corning Regional Airport," said Schumer. "Safe and dependable airport service is critical to the economy of the Southern Tier, so we need to guarantee that residents remain connected to keep the economic engine running. I will fight to keep these grants coming."
"This is a great investment for the Southern Tier," Senator Gillibrand said. "These federal dollars will help improve infrastructure at the airport, support job creation and enhance safety for travelers. I will continue working with Senator Schumer to make sure New York gets its fair share from the federal government."
The Elmira Corning Regional Airport (ELM) has served the Southern Tier of Central New York since 1945. The Airport offers business and leisure travelers' convenient access to major urban areas while maintaining the advantages of a small, regional airport.
