Schumer: New Arts & Education Hub Will Be Win-Win For LPCA & North Country Community!
U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer today stood at Lake Placid Center for the Arts (LPCA) and celebrated $1 million in federal funding he delivered for its Capital Project, the Center’s new arts and early childhood education hub. Soon, the new arts and education hub will increase access to arts and education for local residents, boost cultural tourism to the North Country, and establish LPCA’s continued role in the community as an indispensable rural institution. Two years ago, Schumer toured the facility and promised to deliver this federal funding, and today, he said the Center is one step closer to bringing this new hub to life.
“The Lake Placid Center for the Arts is a gem of the Adirondacks and an important economic driver for the North Country. Two years ago, I toured LPCA, heard about their Capital Project, a bold vision for a new arts and education hub, and promised to deliver federal funding to bring this project to life. Today, I can say a promise made is a promise kept!” said Senator Schumer. “I’m thrilled to announce I have secured $1 million to support the Center’s ongoing efforts to create more programming space. This new hub is a win-win-win that will improve access to arts and education for Essex County residents, boost tourism for the entire North Country, and solidify the Center’s status as a gem of the North Country, as I have long known it to be. I was proud to deliver this federal funding and will always fight to deliver resources for Essex County and the North Country.”
Two years ago, Schumer visited LPCA to learn about the Center’s planned Capital Project. Today, after pledging to fight for federal funding for the project, Schumer announced he has secured $1 million in the recently passed Fiscal Year 2026 Agriculture-Rural Development budget bill to support the project after previously delivering $1 million in federal funding from the Northern Border Regional Commission.
LCPA’s current infrastructure is past its functional age and lacks sufficient space to meet regional demand for arts programming, Head Start early childhood education programs, and office space for local nonprofits that share its space. The new arts and education hub will include early childhood education classrooms, arts education studios, and office workspace for additional nonprofits.
Founded in 1972, Lake Placid Center for the Arts presents programming of the highest caliber amidst the extraordinary landscape of Adirondack Park. Situated within the Village of Lake Placid, LPCA serves artists and audiences through four programmatic pillars: Presenting, Arts Education, Visual Arts, and Services to Artists & Organizations. As the only year-round arts organization within a 45-mile radius in NYS’s Adirondack mountains, LPCA is an essential community facility and a major economic driver for the region. LPCA is well known for hosting artists of the highest quality that regularly draw in sizeable crowds that patronize other local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and shops.
